Finding a therapist is kind of like dating: You reach out to the therapist because a mutual acquaintance recommended them, or something in their online profile spoke to you. Then, a phone consultation helps you get a good feel for what it is like to be together. Meanwhile, the therapist is also deciding if they can help and support your goals. Then you do that with several therapists to compare. When everyone is on the same page, you move forward and schedule that first appointment.
We don’t always get it right. If it turns out for any reason that I’m not the therapist for you, I would be happy to provide referrals to other great therapists in the community.

Mental health interventions vary. For example, solution focused therapy can range from 6-10 sessions.
Other interventions designed to treat complex trauma can take up to several years. Your time in therapy will be determined by your goals and what issues arise during treatment. On average, clients work with Emily for 2-3 years.
